I am a Development Officer at Coventry City Council's Children, Learning and Young People's Directorate. My job is to look at all aspects of the business and find ways to make things better for children and families, while ensuring that taxpayers money are well spent. In the past year, I had the opportunity to work with local families to design Short Break services in response to the Government's Aiming High for Disabled Children programme; develop software packages for the placement of Looked After Children and children with disabilities; rewrite guidance documents to ensure fairness and equity in our Aftercare services; develop unit costs of key services; and draft reports for Cabinet and the Government.
Coventry City Council is a four-star metropolitan authority in the West Midlands providing local government services to over 300,000 people in the historic city of Coventry, including around 45,000 children and young people. The Children, Learning and Young People’s Directorate manages all services related to the well-being of children and young people in the city, from birth to the age of 19 and beyond under the government’s Every Child Matters programme. Its work is divided along broad lines into the following four key areas: - Services for Schools - Neighbourhood Services - Specialist Services - Strategic Services The directorate is also a key player in Coventry's Children and Young People's Strategic Partnership, which is made up of local agencies working together to create a better future for young people in the city.
