DH and DCSF launch Healthy Lives, Brighter Futures a
strategy for children and young people’s health published – 12
February 2009
Healthy Lives, Brighter Futures is the
long-term strategy to support children and families’ health. It
aims to provide mothers and fathers with the support they need to
give their children a healthy start in life, and help young people
make healthy choices.
The strategy makes several commitments for
children in their early years, at school age and in adolescence;
for children with acute or additional needs, and for system-level
transformation.
Healthy Lives, Brighter Futures sets out the
Government’s expectations of services and of the children’s
workforce, and details the support it is putting in place to help
them. For leaders and commissioners this includes:
- continuing development of the Commissioning
Support Programme to help local authorities and PCTs develop their
expertise in commissioning child health services
- publication of Securing better health for
children and young people through world class commissioning, a
guide to support delivery of the child health strategy
and commissioners in their role of securing better
outcomes for children and young people.
