  • The Oneplace National Overview report (4.62 MB)

    The Oneplace National Overview report looks across the whole range of local public services and complements local reporting through Oneplace. This report, has information on Comprehensive Area Assessment, or CAA, it covers what helps and hinders improvement in local public services, to guide national and local policy makers; and provides information for local leaders and highlights examples of how their peers have overcome some of the common challenges that they face.

  • Giving children a healthy start: review of health improvements in children from birth to five years (3.1 MB)

    In February 2010, the Audit Commission has issued a report on the local implementation of national policy from 1999 to 2009 on the health of children from birth to five years of age in England. The report found that recent increased focus and funding for early years has not produced widespread improvements in health outcomes. Indeed some health indicators have worsened – for example, obesity and dental health –and the health inequalities gap between rich and poor has barely changed.

  • Next Practice in System Leadership – 3E’s Coalition of schools. (39 KB)

    3Es is a coalition of six secondary schools in the Midlands and Surrey, formed to implement and further develop the 3Es ethos; a set of beliefs and practices designed to address long term underachievement. Previously failing or underachieving participating schools, report a 20 – 30% improvement in student achievement during the period of their involvement.

  • National Challenge: A toolkit for schools and Local Authorities (1.01 MB)

    National Challenge: Raising Standards, Supporting Schools. The National Challenge will support schools with the lowest GCSE results, so that by 2011 in every secondary school at least 30% of students will achieve five GCSEs at A*-C including English and mathematics. The National Challenge will focus greater attention; help and resources on schools that are currently below this benchmark

  • A healthy choice: Building a stronger NHS (380 KB)

    "This CBI report focuses on three areas to accelerate reform and deliver an NHS fit for the 21st century. In particular, it sets out: how patient choices must be driven by advice, support and information; a vision for commissioning in the NHS; the foundations for effective health market management. "

  • Adoption and the inter-agency fee (739 KB)

    This study was funded by the Department for Children Schools and Families (DCSF) as part of the Adoption Research Initiative. Local authorities (LAs) and voluntary adoption agencies (VAAs) arrange adoptions in England. LAs place children for adoption with their own approved prospective adopters.

  • A Good School Place for Every Child in Brent (640 KB)

    This report presents the findings of a quantitative survey carried out between 22 December 2007 and 22 February 2008. The findings from the survey will be used to inform the future provision of school places and the siting of new schools or the expansion of existing school sites, where sufficient site space exists. Information gathered will be helpful in determining which communities are more willing to accept new school provision, and what the borough might consider important in raising standards in schools.
